2018 Round 4 Recap.

Premier League - Redwings 8 Blackhawks 5

Solid goaltending and six unanswered goals saw the Premier League Redwings storm the Blackhawks for an 8-5 win.

Andrew Glass made his season debut and was called upon straight away to help his team snag a win in an epic goal-fest of a game. Both teams boasted solid line ups full of skill and depth but were with out some key players in the likes of the Blackhawks Greg Oddy and David Chubb while the Wings were missing Captain Trevor Walsh and Remy McGuiness.

A conservative period belonged to the goalies each only allowing one goal to close out the starting 15 minutes. Tyler Leeming had the red and white on the board first for the first time this season with helpers going to Dave Gal and veteran Tom Tait. The Blackhawks would eventually get on the board late in the period with Tyson Boyd finding the back of the net assisted by Andrew Kowalczuk.

The Blackhakws came to play in the second and took the boys in red by surprise piling on 20 shots to 10, putting away 4 goals to 2 in the process. Darren Corstens, who played part of the 2014 season with the Redwings started the blitz for the Hawks, giving them a 2-1 lead at the 11:39 mark of the second period. A frenzied bottom half of the period saw five goals scored in 5 minutes.

Again the Hawks found the net with Josh Harding kicking off the 5 minutes goal-fest at 7:37. Just 12 seconds later the Wings replied through Dave Gal when he combined with Tyler Leeming and Tom

Tait. Determined and relentless the Hawks answered the call and replied the very next shift with Chris Stanton finishing a play with Paul Joyce at 6:51. Not content the Hawks continued to push and were rewarded once again with Zach Boyle blasting home a set up by Darren Corstens and Matt Lothian to lead 5-2. A stunned Redwings team managed to compose them selves and through the one-two punch of Tyler Leeming and Dave Gal the score was cut to 5-3 as it would stay for the rest of the period.

The ice flood came at just the right time for the Wings with all the momentum swinging the way of the men in black. The third period however was a different story, again Tyler Leeming found the back of the net with Dave Gal assisting at 9:26 to close the gap to one goal. As time dwindled down the Wings continued to apply the pressure on net, out shooting the Hawks 20-8 for the period. The team finally got the break they were looking for when a 5-3 power play presented its self. Import Adam Piett cashed in with a powerplay goal with 4.22 remaining to tie the score at 5-5. Marcel McGuiness and Dave gal were awarded the assists. Moments after the next faceoff, and still on the power play the Blackhakws again had a player sent to the penalty box to give the Redwings a second 5-3 advantage. The Hawks defended well but couldnt prevent another Adam Piett powerplay goal yet again assisted by Marcel McGuiness and Dave Gal at the 3:16 mark. The Wings would ride their momentum to close out the game finding the net two more times with Nicola Pau scoring his first of the season assisted by Tom Tait, and Tyler Leeming picking up his 4th goal of the game via an empty netter assisted by Dave Gal who finished with a goal and 6 assists.

Marcel McGuiness was awarded the Vodafone Redwings player of the game.
